Job Opening - Parent Trainer!

The Common Sense Parenting® (CSP) Authorized Parent Trainer will train the Common Sense Parenting® model at Tried & True (T&T) Partner locations. T&T Partners are like-minded organizations and churches located in the greater Cincinnati area.  

 The CSP class meets once a week for two hours for six weeks. The class covers the following: 

  1. Parents as Teachers — Shows parents how to teach children self-discipline. 

  2. Effective Praise — Helps parents encourage positive behaviors by responding enthusiastically and sincerely. 

  3. Preventive Teaching — Enables parents to teach children what they'll need to know in future situations, as well as practice using the skill. 

  4. Corrective Teaching — Responds to children's problem behaviors with teaching and practicing acceptable alternatives. Parents will be able to adhere to a staying-calm plan for when they become upset with their children. 

  5. Teaching Self-Control — Teaches a skill parents can use to allow children time to calm down and remain calm in future situations. 

  6. Putting It All Together — Helps parents develop a parenting style to improve relationships with their children. 

 Position Requirements: 

  • The Parent Trainer will be required to attend a virtual 3-day School Age CSP® Training followed by a virtual 2-day Toddler and Preschool Age Training via Boys Town. Applicants must be available on the dates of the all-day training, which are September 22-26, 2025. All training expenses will be paid for by Tried & True.  

  • At the same time, the Trainer will participate in a full 6-week CSP series that will take place one evening a week starting in September. The Trainer will fully participate as a parent, regardless of having any biological, foster, or adopted children. 

  • Once training, certification and participation is completed, the Trainer will co-train alongside a CSP Trainer for one full parenting series. The CSP Director or Executive Director (ED) will observe the trainer and provide feedback week to week. 

  • The time commitment per class is about 3 hours, allowing time for set up and tear down.  

  • This position reports to the CSP Director.  

  • Trainer will also maintain contact with parents in group series prior to, during, and between each class via text, phone, email or Facebook. They will be available to answer questions, provide feedback, encourage, sharpen, and gently challenge as their parents put parenting tools into play. 

  • Trainer will Meet with the CSP Director as needed during the course of the series. 

  • Attend bi-annual Alumni Connect Events with participants in group series. 

  • Attend Partner events, training sessions and pre-series events as needed to share about the offerings associated with Tried & True. 

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and office hours on Wednesday afternoons at the Tried & True office. 

  • Estimated 8-10 hours/week when training, and 2-4 hours/week when not training.
